The Sauna Sweat Suit: Helping You Lose Weight

Sauna suits are used by everyone from professional body builders to female celebrities looking to lose their pregnancy weight quickly. 

Recently made famous by Kendra Wilkinson, former star of "The Girls Next Door" and recently married to Hank Baskett, the reality star featured the Ballys Sauna Suit on her newest reality show, "Kendra." Kendra's brother had given a sauna sweat suit to the new mom knowing that she would want to quickly get back to her pre-pregnancy weight. Many believe that weight loss can occur from sitting in a sauna, so the sauna sweat suit (not supposed to be used in a sauna), is great for those without access to a sauna.

During the first episode of the new season of "Kendra," the reality star tries on the sauna suit and models it for her husband. Kendra uses the sauna suit for the rest of the episode in an effort to lose weight before an "after" shoot she has agreed to do for a popular celebrity magazine. 

In a nutshell, sauna suits are sweat suits with an inner lining that encourages your body to sweat. When worn while working out, you'll sweat even more than you normally would, but without anywhere to go, your body heat will increase, causing you to lose more weight and inches with each workout.

While the name sauna suit makes it seem like you would wear this in a sauna, that's not the case. Most manufacturers warn against ever wearing a sauna suit in an actual sauna as your body heat will raise drastically. Instead, the name sauna suit comes from the fact that you sweat, and the suit is acting very much as a sauna would.

For those confused, you may be thinking of body wrap treatments that claim to help you lose anywhere from 6-20 inches per session by being wrapped in bandages soaked in minerals, then covered in a similar type of suit that will hold the bandages together and allow them to breath without being released. Those customers then are placed in a sauna in which the minerals are allowed to seep into your body. Sauna suits help to breakdown fat tissue into sweat. On top of the weight loss benefits, sauna suits also boost circulation and help to rid the body of everyday toxins that may cause bloating and swelling.
