About Kelly Cutrone

Kelly Cutrone was born a publicist, but it took her years of trial and error to finally come to that realization. From working as a club promoter, teaching nurses's how to sell the NutriSystem meals, touring as a vocal artist, and working as an assistant for Susan Blonde, Cutrone now owns the uber-successful fashion public relations company, People's Revolution.

Kelly has a daughter, Ava, with Illario Calvo, and has been married - and divorced - twice: first to Ronnie Cutrone, then Jeff Kober. She can now be seen putting on fashion shows for companies like Agent Provocateur, traveling between her New York, LA, and Paris offices, and appearing on shows like The Hills, The City and, now, Kell On Earth.

If You Have To Cry, Go Outside

If You Have To Cry, Go Outside

While the book is mainly geared to 22-25 year olds heading into their first job, anyone inspiring to work in the fashion industry or those looking for a wake up call will want to at least skim through the chapters. I received this book on a Friday afternoon, and by 11 pm the same night, I had read through all the chapters. The only other book I've ever sat down and read entirely - in one sitting - was Eat, Pray, Love.

While I didn't take away very much career advice from the book, it did help me to think more about what I want in my career. The book wasn't necessarily meant for me, though, considering I'm years out of college. To the college student that hasn't been given the paved path (or a trust fund), there's some advice that can come in handy -- if it's used -- including the advice to find your tribe and to contact the people that you want to be (then intern for them). In today's economy, especially, it's important to stand out, and Kelly spells that out clearly in her book.
